Why Recess is Important?
According to the World Health Organization, 15 to 20 minutes of cardiovascular activity will help all individuals maintain a healthy lifestyle. It is even more recognized now that elementary students need the time to unwind and socially connect with their peers as way to relieve stress and have fun!
Our staff members encourage, support, and recognize that recess is important part of the day for all students. We encourage all students to take a natural break, unwind, and to move around when possible!

Recess Guidelines:
These guidelines are supported and adhered by staff and students at Conant. We encourage, remind, and support each other in learning how to share and connect with each other as a community during a break and play!

How to Problem Solve:
1) RPS Method (Rock, Paper, Scissors): This is the simplest and easiest method in which students are taught in PE to solve quick problems. It is best out of one. In the event of tiebreaker, replay again until we get a winner. The winner chooses their choice. This should be done with one leader from each team.
2) Replay it again: Instead of the arguments holding up the game, a simple replay the specific part of the game for continuation. For example, in the game of basketball, start with the inbound pass first. It should be noted, it should only happen once per game.
3) Take a break: During the heat of the moment, take a break from the action and walk away. It may be difficult but at least you cool your own bottled emotions and then regather your thoughts to move forward.
